Temptation
In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one.
The Holy Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness to be tempted. I agree with Jesus. If I can bypass being tempted then let it be. I certainly am not going to ask to be tempted more. However, I am not sure I completely understand I can petition God to not be led into temptation.
I do not want the Holy Spirit to lead me into temptation like He led Jesus. I have nothing to prove to the evil one. Why ask for a battle that has already been won by Jesus?
Because I am in a human body with my own lusts and desires, it is easy to be tempted. Therefore, I have no need of proving myself. The evil one can come up with his own temptations, I do not need to ask for more. I like the idea that I can ask to bypass being led into temptation.
I thoroughly love how Jesus showed us we did not have to prove ourselves. Instead we can ask God to deliver us from the evil one. We do not have to fight a battle Jesus has already won.
My Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. Your kingdom come. You’re will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give me the Word of God today so it is written on my heart and lived through every action. Forgive me of my sins. I choose to forgive those who have hurt and harmed me. I come before You with nothing to prove. I ask that I would not be led into temptation. I ask for Your Holy Spirit to guide and counsel me but not to lead me to the evil one to be tempted. Instead, when the evil one pursues me I ask for be delivered from his evil ploys in Jesus’ Name amen.
